As an entrepreneur, the only way to be successful is to maintain your joy in what you’re doing. That comes from deep inside of you, believing that you have something of value to share with your community.
So, let me ask you a question. Are you in business for the one time sales or the ongoing relationship?
In themselves, neither one of these goals are better or worse than another. If however, you’re focusing on only one of them, say the quick, one time sale, you’re going to run into trouble. Yes, you sell a product, but if there’s no relationship, you’re at the end of the line. Or if you’re focusing on just building relationships and don’t have a product for sale, it’s not going to be bringing in any revenue and your business is going to fold. As an entrepreneur, the only way to be successful is to maintain your joy in what you’re doing. That comes from deep inside of you, believing that you have something of value to share with your community.
How can an entrepreneur keep that joy alive?
So how can you tap into two different facets of joy?
One facet of joy is the celebration that comes instantly from accomplishing something… like a one-time sale. You know you have a great product or service and you’re happy someone wants it. That’s an immediate cause for joy.
But what if you never hear from that customer again because they didn’t use your product? Does that kill your joy?
It doesn’t have to. You don’t know for sure if they didn’t like your product. You have to recognize that people proceed at their own pace and that life can interfere with the best-laid plans. You just have to trust they’ll show up again later.
The other facet of joy is contentment from knowing you’re on the right path. It’s so rewarding knowing that you’re bettering the world in some way with your business. That’s the joy that grows over time and mellows to a rich satisfaction. It often comes from building relationships with people who value what you do and trust you.
As an entrepreneur, you need both types of joy to keep you and your business healthy. Want to learn more about keeping your joy? Listen to my free teleclass with author Bob Burg Being a Go-Giver: A Little Story about a Powerful Business Idea. Click here to listen.
