As an entrepreneur, the only way to be successful is to maintain your joy in what you’re doing. That comes from deep inside of you, believing that you have something of value to share with your community.
So, let me ask you a question. Are you in business for the one time sales or the ongoing relationship?

Because the experiences of everyday living continually reshape each one of us, who you are today is not who you were five years ago or even last year!
It’s the same thing with your business. The ideas and vision you started out with have evolved – they’ve been changed by the people you've met and the experiences you’ve had over time. Add to that the technological advances and you have a recipe for rapid change with which entrepreneurs must learn to cope.
That can be a good thing or that can be a terribly destructive and overwhelming thing for entrepreneurs. It’s good from time to time to consider if the changes have really been in the direction you want to go or whether you’ve been pushed into doing something or being someone you’re not comfortable with.
So how do you define yourself today? I’d like to suggest a simple exercise that can help you to focus on being your authentic self as you move your business forward.

One of the special challenges that entrepreneurs face is balancing what you need to do with what you want to do. Of course, everybody has that same challenge, but when you work in the corporate world you clock in and clock out of work at a specific time. The company sets those boundaries for you. As an entrepreneur, especially if you work from home, you have to get tough with yourself and set your own boundaries.
For many of us what drew us to the entrepreneurial lifestyle is the desire to be in charge of our own life. We wanted the freedom to spend more time in pursuits that we love, whether that’s spending more time with our family, traveling, or contributing to the charities in our community.
Sadly, I see many entrepreneurs, so busy with other things that they don’t take care of themselves. And the truth is a person can only neglect their health, whether physically, emotionally, or spiritually, for so long before there’s a breakdown.

Entrepreneurs are going through a crazy economic time and I hear more and more people who are feeling a lot of financial pressure in their business. Many will say that money is the root of all evil, yet for me money has been an incredible entrepreneurial teacher over these years.
One of the key things that I’ve learned is that, when I’m focused on being of service and on the good things that I’m providing, then amazingly the money shows up! It’s as simple as that subtle shift.
It’s key to really understand that bringing money into your life is more than the hard work that you do. It’s a lot about who you’re being from an internal place.

Business isn’t just about the processes and the technical nuts and bolts. As an entrepreneur your business is YOU. What happens to you will be reflected in your business. Many times as your business grows you’ll need to grow, and if you’re willing to jump in and put yourself in a vulnerable position, it can be a great learning opportunity.
For myself, I’ve found that every time I’m able to cross into a new place, it’s usually because I’ve let go of some limiting belief that has been holding me back. Rather than a limiting belief, I begin building beliefs that support me. Some examples are:

Many entrepreneurs are finding that the pace of life seems to be getting faster and faster. Especially with conducting business on the Internet and the advances in technology, there never seems to be enough time to keep up.
It’s so important not to lose focus on where you want your business and life to be. To be a healthy individual you’re not just one sided. You wear many hats – the entrepreneur hat, the parent hat, the spouse hat, the home maintenance hat and so on. Just as important is that you also wear the “just you” hat. Everyone needs to take personal time.

Like most entrepreneurs, you may think that when you get to a certain level of profit, or triple your growth, that you will be truly happy. But the research at Harvard University shows just the opposite is true. You need to be happy first, and then the success and accomplishment will come.

Almost everyone knows Aesop’s fable about the race between the hare and the tortoise. The hare sprints off, gleeful that he’s far outrunning the tortoise. But he soon gets tired and stops to take a nap thinking he has all the time in the world because the tortoise is miles behind.
The tortoise, however, walks at a slow and steady pace. It may seem like he’s never going to get to the finish line, but because he’s learned to pace himself he passes the hare and wins.
In your business, which are you? The hare or the tortoise?

One of the great benefits I’ve experienced with having children is that the lessons I teach them are often the ones I need to listen to as well.
My husband decided he wanted to take all three kids skiing this weekend, just for a day trip up to the Berkshires in Massachusetts. While I can ski and like it when I do, I was also really happy for a day to myself, just to enjoy the quiet of a weekend house (which strangely enough feels different than the quiet of a weekday house when they all leave for school).

So many entrepreneurs start the new year eagerly wanting to make changes in their business as well as their lives. You make all kinds of resolutions that are good ideas. But, after only a few days or weeks, you slump back into the same old routine.
Why is it that some entrepreneurs move forward while others can’t?
I believe to move forward that you have to be empowered by the realization that you have control of your life and that you get to create the kind of life you want.
So..how can you create a life you love?
It all starts with your thoughts.
Your energy flows from your good thoughts whether consciously or subconsciously. So if you’re coming from a yucky place, you need to look at the limiting beliefs that are controlling you.
Here are some tools to use to get your business and life out of that stagnant place:
